MAKE SUNDAY BETTER

Last Sunday was good, but let’s make this one better. Try these 6 things and watch your Sunday morning worship team experience go from good to great in one week.

1 | REFLECT, DON’T REPEAT

God likely did more last Sunday than you realized. The best teams and leaders don’t just move on — they look back and learn. Small shifts in awareness can lead to major growth in your abilities and leadership.

Before you move on to the next service, ask…👇

  • What went well last Sunday? What felt off or forced?

  • When did I sense God’s presence most?

  • Where did I feel confident? Where did I feel distracted?

What is one thing I can celebrate?

What is one thing I can develop?

2 | REACH OUT BEFORE YOU SHOW UP

You don’t build a strong team on Sunday morning — you build it through the week.
Worship is a team sport. Encouragement sets the tone before anyone shows up. That one text, voice memo, or check-in could shift someone’s spirit. Don’t underestimate the power of being friendly off-stage before serving onstage.

Send a quick text or voice memo to a teammate:

  • “Covering you in prayer tonight.”

  • “You crushed it last time you played guitar — do it again this week!”

  • “What do you think God will do tomorrow?”

Who on the team can you encourage before you serve together this weekend?

3 | PREP MORE THAN YOUR PART

The more we prepare the practical, the more space we create for the spiritual. Your role is bigger than the part you play or the gear you operate — you’re helping create an atmosphere where lives are changed. See the service through a bigger lens of just what part you play.

  • Rehearse your part, but also ready your heart

  • Review transitions between songs

  • Read the Planning Center notes

  • Ask questions ahead of time if something seems confusing

Do I know what I’m playing? More importantly, do I know why I’m playing it?

4 | INVITE THE HOLY SPIRIT — EARLY.

The most powerful worship leaders aren’t just skilled — they’re sensitive. The Holy Spirit isn’t looking for perfection; He’s looking for surrender. When you invite Him in early, you enter into the room differently. Don’t wait until the first song. Don’t wait for Sunday.

Pray this on Saturday evening:

Holy Spirit, I invite You in — before the rehearsal, before the soundcheck, before I ever step into my position. Quiet my heart. Align my spirit. I don’t want to lead from pressure or performance — I want to lead from Your presence. “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.” (Psalm 139:23 NLT)

Fill every moment with meaning. Anoint my hands and voice. Guide my attitude. Help me be aware of what you're doing, not just what I’m doing. Go before me into the room. Move in my teammates. Draw people’s hearts to Jesus. Start with me. Use me to usher in your kingdom on earth as it is in heaven. Amen.

5 | TAKE CARE OF YOUR TEMPLE

Leading well on Sunday doesn’t start on the platform — it starts with how you care for your physical, emotional, and mental health on Saturday. Don’t let a rushed morning or exhausted mind rob you of the presence you were made to carry.

  • Rest | Early morning = early bedtime.

  • Hydrate | Drink water (coffee doesn’t count).

  • Focus | Avoid mindless scrolling and unproductive media intake.

  • Prepare | clothes, gear, and mind

What can I do Saturday night that helps me lead more freely Sunday morning?

6 | WORSHIP BEFORE THE ROOM DOES

The most effective worship team members lead from a place they’ve already been with God — not one they’re trying to reach on stage. You can’t take people to a place you haven’t been yourself. Be marked by His presence before you lead others into His presence.

  • Play a song that is vertical (about who He is, not what He does)

  • Read scripture and center yourself

  • Meditate in silence and listen for the voice of God

“But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.”  — Matthew 6:6 (NLT)

YOU CAN DO IT!

You’ve done the unseen work. You’ve reflected, prayed, prepared, and encouraged. All of that matters more than you know. But tomorrow isn’t about a perfect service (whatever that means) and it’s not about flawless execution of parts. It’s about Jesus. It’s about hosting His presence and creating a space where people can encounter Him.

So whether you’re behind a mic, behind a camera, behind the scenes, or playing a guitar know this:
You are part of something holy.

So take a deep breath. Walk in available. Lead from overflow. Serve with joy. Show up ready. God will do the rest.

NOW, GO… MAKE SUNDAY BETTER!
